NOBODY In The Old Testament Was Saved By Looking Forward To The Cross

A common non-dispensationalist lie is that saints in the Old Testament were saved by looking forward to the cross for salvation.

This is primarily espoused by a twisting of Acts 10:43 and Acts 26:22-23 to try and teach that Old Testament prophets were preaching salvation by Jesus Christ in the Old Testament.

Acts 26:22-23 (KJV) – “Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: (23) That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.”

What the non-dispensationalist heretics fail to realize is that Paul is referring to the PROPHECIES of the Messiah, and the prophets prophesying the Messiah coming, such as Isaiah 42:1-7 and Isaiah 49:1-6. The apostle Paul is NOT saying that the prophets were preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ for salvation.

NOBODY in the Old Testament was saved by “looking forward to the cross.”

When Jesus Christ told his apostles about his upcoming crucifixion, none of the ISRAELITE apostles had a clue what Jesus Christ was saying.

Mark 9:31-32 (KJV) – “For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day. (32) But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.”

Matthew 16:21-23 (KJV) – “From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. (22) Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. (23) But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.”

Luke 18:31-34 (KJV) – “Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. (32) For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: (33) And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. (34) And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.”

The apostles would have understood what Jesus Christ was saying if Old Testament saints were being saved by “looking forward to the cross.”
